We are a custom woodworking shop that is located in Denver, CO. Our striving goal is to give our customers more then they expect, but what they so deserve. Chris O'Neil is the sole owner of Rocky Mountain Woodworking, LLC. With an extensive backround in residential construction, interior finish carpentry, custom woodworking, acoustic and electric guitar building as well as building custom designed wine cellars. Chris has built everything from hand pegged post and beam homes to commercial bars to high end acoustic stringed instruments.
Chris has had a passion for working with wood since a young age. He can remember around the age of six playing with his Dads circular saw in the bastment. He was so curious as for what all these neat tools did. At the age of eight he finally started learning while working on his Nana's cottage in Alton Bay, NH. How excited he was to be running the reciprocating saw and the nail guns, chisels and hammers. At that point he new what he wanted to do, work with wood and tools of course. A few years later after tinkering around with numorus little projects, Chris got the oppertunity to work for one of the areas fine home builders. Chris started at the very bottom of the ladder of course, with knowing very little about construction other then there were a lot of neat tools involved. He caught on quickly and soon begain climbing the ladder (literally) and proving to his boss that he had what it took to make a fine craftsman. Three years later Chris was still working with that same builder, but had now gained the respect of his boss and his fellow co-workers.
Chris was now a senior in high school and taking a course on woodworking. The last project of the course was to build whatever he wanted within reason, Chris decided he wanted to build a electric guitar. The teacher didn't really know what to say, other then good luck. With the mentoring of local luthier Ryan Martin, Chris sucessfully built his first electric guitar and blew his teacher away, this was no ordinary guitar, it was a real work of art. Now Chris had found a new passion for working with wood, guitar building! For the next few years Chris worked on his guitars as much as he could while working full time building houses and custom cabinetry. After coming to the realization that work was now a full time gig, Chris had to put the guitars aside and focus on his career as a carpenter. At this point is when Chris started doing finishing carpentry full time and was very happy with his new position. For the next four years Chris continued working as a finish carpenter and soon got a promotion to lead finish carpenter, taking on whole houses on his own. This is when Chris really begain learning the fundamentals of time managment, business and running your own company.
With a sense of accomplishment in carpentry, Chris desided it was time to get back into what he really had a passion for, guitar building and woodworking. This is when Chris moved from NH to Colorado to pursue his dreams of becoming a custom guitar builder and to be taught under the training of luthier Edward Victor Dick at The Colorado School of Lutherie. While still in school and learning more day by day, Chris was trying to get a apprenticeship with one of the areas fine luthiers. This is when Chris meet luthier Chris Michas with Michas Custom Guitars. Chris spent the next two years working with Michas Custom Guitars as well as building custom designed wine cellars. With always wanting to own and operate his own shop in 2007 Chris founded Rocky Mountain Woodworking, LLC.
